Garne soils are on hills in bedrock controlled uplands with slope gradients ranging from 2 to 12 percent. Matt expects to find a sandy mantle from 15 to 35 inches thick derived from re-worked (by wind or water, or both) sandy outwash, then weakly cemented fine-grained glauconitic sandstone bedrock becoming firmer with depth. Native vegetation was tall grass prairie with a few oak trees; in cultivated areas, corn, soybeans, small grains, and hay are the principal crops.
